Hi, I'm Wayne Blackhurst.

I produce images from cute and cuddly to dark and disturbing. Essentially, my work has a peculiar element.

I predominately work in black and white. Inked texture forms a palette applied with obsessive detail. My style is highly recognisable, fine tuned over the years to become an amalgamation of old technique with new technology.

I've been inspired by artists such as Harry Clarke and Aubrey Beardsley, with a smattering of dark humour thanks to early exposure to Edward Gory's delightfully grim Gashlycrumb Tinies.

I'm almost entirely self taught with the exception of a bit of on-the-job training as a technical illustrator through architect's and interior designer's studios. For a while I've been self employed, to concentrate on more creative illustration and to hone my craft.

I've worked on greetings cards, maps and diagrams. I've had a couple of appearances in books and magazines. A highlight was being involved in a special anthology alongside authors such as Michael Marshall Smith, Joe Hill and Stephen King.

I've developed a unique look for graphic novels. I'm also keen to adapt my style for book illustration for children, teens and young adults.

I'm always looking for new opportunities to provide curious creative solutions to wider audiences. I'd love your support, especially if you're an agent. I can offer a bold style with oodles of quirkiness and unlimited enthusiasm.
